Sual ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Sual mobile and web application (the "Service"), an Islamic knowledge platform. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our Service.

Information we collect

When you create an account, we collect:

• Your name and email address
• Profile photo, if you choose to upload one
• Quiz results and learning progress data, including Hifdh (memorization) progress
• Posts and replies you submit within the Spaces community feature
• Books, documents, or images you upload to the Book Quiz feature, and voice recordings you submit for Hifdh recitation checks (see "AI-assisted features" below)

If you use our prayer times feature, we may request access to your approximate location to calculate accurate prayer timings. This data is used only for this purpose and is not stored on our servers.

If you use the Hifdh voice recitation feature, we request access to your microphone to record a short clip of your recitation for checking purposes. Recordings are sent for transcription as described below and are not permanently stored on our servers.

AI-assisted features

Some features in Sual send content you provide to OpenAI, a third-party AI provider, for processing:

• Book Quiz: text, scanned pages, or photos you upload are sent to OpenAI to generate quiz questions and, where needed, to transcribe images into text.
• Hifdh voice recitation check: a short audio recording of your recitation is sent to OpenAI to transcribe it and check it against the expected passage.

This content is processed to provide the feature you requested and is not used by us to train any AI model. Please refer to OpenAI's privacy policy for information on how they handle data sent to their services.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide and maintain the Service
• Track your learning progress and quiz history
• Send you account-related emails, such as confirmation, password reset, and welcome messages
• Operate the Spaces community feature and Book Quiz subscriptions for paid subscribers
• Improve and personalize your experience

Payment information

Subscriptions to Spaces, and separately to Book Quiz, are processed through Paystack, a third-party payment processor. We do not store your card details. Please refer to Paystack's privacy policy for information on how they handle payment data.

Data storage

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, our backend infrastructure provider. We implement industry-standard security measures, including row-level security policies, to protect your information.

Data sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your information with third parties except as necessary to provide the Service, including our payment processor (Paystack), our AI processing provider (OpenAI, for the features described above), our email provider, and our hosting infrastructure, or as required by law.

Your rights, including account deletion

You may:

• Access and update your profile information at any time within the app
• Opt out of non-essential emails

To delete your account and all associated data, you can:

• Use the Delete Account option in the app, under Profile → Account Settings, or
• Submit a request at usesual.com/delete-account without needing to log in or have the app installed

When you delete your account, we permanently delete your account and all associated personal data, including your profile, quiz history, Hifdh progress, Spaces posts, and uploaded Book Quiz content, from our systems, except where we are required to retain certain records (such as payment transaction records) to comply with legal or tax obligations.

Children's privacy

Our Service is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the date at the top of this page.
